The trees are coming, the trees are coming! The RRDS is expecting massive amounts of trees to be sold!
Each spring we bring forest trees into the Fort Frances area and sell them at a little above cost to encourage folks to plant trees. We contract to germinate about 10,000 local donated forest tree seeds a year with a commercial nursery in Dryden. These trees are sold out of the Emo Agricultural Station (EARS) in Emo in mid-May to June of each year. We also set up one or more tree sales days in the community at the Fort Frances Public Library Technology Centre and the Rainy Lake Square. Tree species sold are usually White Spruce and Red Pine, but we have also sold Eastern White Cedar in the past. Next year, we are hoping to have about one thousand Bur Oak trees that we have grown from local seed collected last fall.
Supplies are Limited
White Spruce and Red Pine seedlings will be sold in bundles of 20 for $5.
We also have some local Bur Oak seedlings in bundles of 5 for $10 this year.
Schools and other institutions may be eligible for donations.
